Por tolo que ye amestao

Objects made of silver, brass, and wool; a printed book; a performance piece.

This project stems from a desire to understand—through natural materials, applied arts, and writing—both my own cultural identity and the territory in which it is rooted. I explore this hybrid identity by creating handcrafted pieces composed of various materials I have collected from the places that shape my identity. The pieces themselves are also hybrid, as they incorporate technical and material fusions. In addition to their physical tangibility, the pieces are accompanied by short texts compiled in an artist’s book in which I reflect on the various themes that emerged as I worked with my hands and which I thus explored in parallel. Some of these include the concepts of otherness, marginalization, queerness, belonging, heritage, and rootedness, and they can be seen both in the created objects and in the written word. Finally, material and word are integrated through an activation in which, in the manner of a performance and in the presence of the corresponding piece, a text is read that brings together fragments from the different areas of my writing.
