Jacinta Bujanda Suárez (New York, 2001) is a visual artist whose practice focuses on borderlands as much as on rootedness, understanding these two as far from opposite forces. Drawing from her diverse ethnic background, she has cultivated a keen interest in examining the intricate intersections between race, gender, and sexual orientation, with a focus on their sociocultural ramifications. Her practice is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach, seeking to establish an honest and open dialogue between ideas and objects. This interconnectedness encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including applied arts such as fiber arts and jewelry, as well as other fields such as writing and performance. The body, materials, and concepts in these disciplines coexist in a state of constant reciprocity, feeding off each other in a horizontal web of interdependencies.
Jacinta's work has been exhibited in New York at the NoMAA @ 4140 Gallery and in Asturias at the Palacio Valdés Bazán. She has completed a residency program at the Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació in Barcelona, has interned at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, and is currently pursuing her MFA in Artistic Production and Research at the Universitat de Barcelona.
