Conceived as a kind of guided meditation inspired by the slow and laborious process of weaving on a floor loom, the resulting piece seeks to use the act of weaving as a catalyst for reflection on materiality. The creative process, interwoven with an intuitive methodology, allows the wool to play a role in the decisions that arise as the piece takes shape. The piece’s large scale and the resulting slower production timelines allow for this development, creating intervals of rest between moments of work. Having completed the steps of spinning and dyeing the weft threads emphasizes the deliberate nature of this creation, highlighting the connection between person and material and seeking, as much as possible, a balance —and always a conversation— between the two.
